On July 10th, the Carthage Board of Commissioners met in a public meeting where they heard presentations from consultants Kimley Horn and Koontz Jones Design on three downtown designs - one of which was chosen to guide development and construction projects for years to come. After months of consideration and comments from the public and downtown business owners, the Board chose a plan that prioritized parking on the circle instead of reducing spaces for use as pedestrian centered open areas. The Town of Carthage appreciates the hundreds of comments from our local citizens, business owners and County government employees who utilize downtown Carthage every day and helped to guide the design of this plan.

For staff, next steps will be to finalize the details of the chosen plan and create a step-by-step list to begin the process of revitalizing one of Moore County's oldest downtown centers.
