The Town of Carthage is a growing community with a population of approximately 2,789. The Carthage Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. 

The Town offers a highly competitive benefits package to include enrollment in the North Carolina Retirement System, 401(K), medical and offered vision insurance, sick and vacation leave package, all uniforms, equipment, and excellent training opportunities. Uniformed officers currently work a 12-hour shift. 

Successful applicants must pass a physical, drug test, comprehensive criminal background investigation, and psychological testing. The pay range starts at $39,682 and the pay range ends at $56,688. 

The pay range listed is the minimum and maximum for this position. Any offer will be commensurate with the skills, experience and education of the candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

United States Citizen, at least twenty (20) years of age; graduation from an accredited high school or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with a college degree(s) preferred; licensed driver in North Carolina or able to obtain a North Carolina driver license within thirty (30) days of appointment; possess some knowledge of law enforcement operations and responsibilities; successful completion or in the process of successfully completing the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) required by the State of North Carolina before probationary status ends; certified in North Carolina as a police officer or able to obtain North Carolina police officer certification; no felony convictions.

Special Requirements

Successful completion of the Field Training Program administered by the Carthage Police Department.
